China Glaze – Poolside Summer 2010: Swatches and Review

Hello neons! :D

Today it snowed again here and the package with China Glaze’s Poolside nail polishes couldn’t have come to a better time. I love winter.. I really do but after weeks of snow where you almost can’t leave the house unless you like to fall down on the streets its enough.

But these bright nail polishes cheered me up. :)

Before your eyes will start to hurt because of the enormous brightness of these neons please be aware that they are even brighter IRL. Cameras can’t capture the brightness of neons accurate and also computer screens put their head down in shame when it comes to neons.

Flip Flop Fantasy

 three coats

Unfortunately I only have one picture of Flip Flop Fantasy. The lighting on my window even though the sky was cloudy was still too bright. The glowing of this nail polish freaked my camera out. The glowing outshined the skin around my nails and it looked scary. I only could take one decent picture in the shade with no direct light hence the blurriness. This is really bugging me because I always want to make sure that my pictures are sharp. :(
But on the bright side the color of Flip Flop Fantasy in this picture is pretty close to IRL. The only difference is that Flip Flop Fantasy is even brighter IRL. Neon coral with a bit of pink deliciousness!

Kiwi Cool-Ada

 four coats

Kiwi Cool-Ada is a medium fluorescent green. My camera luckily had less trouble with this one. This nail polish of course is even brighter IRL as well. :D

Pool Party

three coats

Pool Party is one of my favorites from this collection. It is a warmer pink with more yellow. Think Sugar High but as a bright, bright a bit darker neon. Again this nail polish is much brighter IRL.
Due to its crazy glowing in direct light I had to take pictures of Pool Party in indirect light too and this was the only sharp one. :(

Sun Worshiper

four coats

Another one of my favorites from this collection! Sun Worshiper is a gorgeous light neon orange. IRL it does look a bit lighter and of course 100 times brighter. :D

Towel Boy Toy

three coats

Towel Boy Toy is my favorite from the Poolside collection. I am wearing it right now as my manicure! :D
It is the only nail polishes with shimmer in this collection. The other five nail polishes have a creme (with a bit jelly?) formula. The base of Towel Boy Toy is a bright medium blue with a hint of teal. The shimmer is very subtle but gorgeous. Towel Boy Toy is a bit darker IRL. My camera had a bit trouble with this color too and even with color correction I couldn’t get this color 100% accurate. :(
This nail polish is less neon than the other nail polishes from this collection. But I know this neon-blue phenomenon from my highlighters. The blue was always the less neon highlighter. :D

Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

five coats

Yellow Polka Dot Bikini is so pretty.. but also so sheer. After the fourth coat I still had a visible nail line so I had to apply a fifth coat. The color is fun though and of course much, much brighter IRL. :D

The application on the lighter neons like Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, Kiwi Cool-Ada or Sun Worshiper was a bit tricky. These neon nail polishes dry to a semi-matte finish and they dry quick. You have to hurry a bit with the application or it will get even more streaky.
On all pictures I am wearing a coat of Seche Vite on top.

Do you already have a wishlist from this collection or are you not a fan of neons?

Newly added: Poolside swatches on MAC foundation shades

Flip Flop Fantasy

Kiwi Cool-Ada

Pool Party

Sun Worshiper

Towel Boy Toy

Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

The color of the swatches in this graphics is based on my daylight swatches. :)

I’m not a neon fan but you did an amazing job on those swatches!

jellynat said on February 12th, 2010 at 21:37

I see that Germany is nothing better than North of France (we’re not that faraway)! It’s also full of snow on here and winter really sucks for us polish swatchers, ah ah!

Anyway, I’m still not sold on neons yet (I’m afraid it’ll make my NW15 skin looks like a corpse’s skin) but the orange is monstruously appealing to me. Danke für die schöne Fotografien! <3

I throw you a snowball! Hee hee.

the-swatchaholic said on February 12th, 2010 at 22:37

:o *throws a snowball back at jellynat* :D

Thank you all! ♥

@Aubree: :D Perfect wishlist!

@Laura: Sun Worshiper looks really great. I still have little sprinkles from swatching on a sheet of paper in front of me and the sprinkles from Sun Worshiper stand out the most. Its so bright!

@Laura Buchan: Perfect list as well! :D

@april brooks: Yes neons are a bit tricky because they are uber bright. :(

@jellynat: *throws another snowball* I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow morning. Hopefully the streets are not slippery. :(

Very pretty, love those colors!

fuwari said on February 12th, 2010 at 23:23

How you managed to put on 5 coats of polish PLUS a topcoat and not get bubbles is beyond me! DDDD:

Am besten mag ich Sun Worshipper, und ich denke nicht dass ich ein anderes aus dieser Kollektion bestellen würde. Ich bin nicht genau ein Neon-person, aber Sun Worshipper irgendwie ruft meinen Namen =)

Kayla said on February 13th, 2010 at 04:04

I love this collection! I may have to purchase the whole lot! Its calling my name!!!! Thanks for the great swatches!

Taki J said on February 13th, 2010 at 06:50

Wow..these really are very bright. Not sure I could swing these on my fingernails but they would make for a really fun pedi. Sun Worshiper and Towel Boy Toy are on my wishlist.

PolishedPrude said on February 13th, 2010 at 14:08

Wow… Neon Bright! Now that’s some serious color. I’m sure this collection could be a pick me up to anybody. Flip Flop, Pool Party, and Towel Boy are on my list.

Crystal Polish said on February 14th, 2010 at 08:28

I have already decided that I need every one of these polishes. They are so cool and amazing… and … and neon. Just great. Well done china glaze.

Cucumpear said on February 15th, 2010 at 02:40

I need these so much it hurts – in a good way. ;-)
Your swatches look amazing.

the-swatchaholic said on February 15th, 2010 at 13:18

@Tenns these colors are so much fun! :)

@fuwari Because they are neons and the coats dry quicker it worked very well. I waited a minute before I applied another coat and I also waited a minute before I applied Seche Vite.

@Crystal I got these nail polishes from the manufacturer for consideration. According to the press release they will be available in April. :)

@Deniz Sun Worshiper: *Deniiiiz.. Deniiiiiz!* Der Lack ist wirklich schön. :)

@Kayla You are very welcome!

@Taki They look like really great pedicure nail polishes, yes. :)

@PolishedPrude These bright, bright colors really can cheer you up. Great list! :)

@Susanne We got more snow today. :D
But weather forcast says that it will be warmer this week. I don’t mind the cold. Do not want warmer weather!

@Beauty addict They are! *nods*

@Crystal Polish Yes this is such a fun collection! :)

@Cucumpear Thank you! :) Need aspirin? :D

Marce said on February 16th, 2010 at 03:17

Peachy said on February 16th, 2010 at 05:55

Loving Sun Worshipper, Kiwi Cool-Ada and Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.

the-swatchaholic said on February 16th, 2010 at 11:53

@Marce Bright pinks and corals are always lovely, yes. :)

@Peachy Sun Worshiper looks like it could be the best seller of this collection, doesn’t it? :D

Day said on February 16th, 2010 at 16:40

After your pictures I must have pinks and orange…and i thought I´d skip them all. Thank you for swatches!

Diana said on February 16th, 2010 at 16:56

I love them I certainly want a couple of them. Nice swatches!

Michele said on February 19th, 2010 at 10:27

@Day Oops! You are very welcome! :D

@Diana Thank you! :)

@Michele Aww thank you! *blushes* :)

Cherie said on February 23rd, 2010 at 07:51

hello,

may I know how much are the series?

the-swatchaholic said on February 23rd, 2010 at 19:24

Cherie: Do you mean their retail price? They have a suggested retail price of $6.50 each but are available for less at etailers like head2toe or transdesign. :)

Shamini said on February 23rd, 2010 at 19:33

I would have jumped on all of them if it hadn’t been for the fact that I’m a one-coat-woman. I have not patience whatsoever, and I absolutely hate it when I have to do more than two coats. It’s kinda sad since most gorgeous polishes need more than one coat, but you know…

the-swatchaholic said on February 23rd, 2010 at 19:39

Shamini: I can understand that. :)
These dry very quick even with a lot of coats because they are neons but I don’t like regular sheer nail polishes that need a lot of coats to get opaque too. :(

Beauty addict said on February 23rd, 2010 at 20:20

Awwww! Just can’t get enough of swatches of this collection! :D They are SO lovely! :D

My favorites are : Sun Worshiper, Towel Boy Toy and Pool Party. If I had ChG closer, in a drugstore near me, I’d probably buy all of them, lol. :D

Thanks for swatches, they’re lovely! :)

Sarah said on March 11th, 2010 at 10:46

Ohhh, Kiwi Cool-Ada and Sun Worshiper, I can’t wait! :-D

the-swatchaholic said on March 11th, 2010 at 16:07

Thank you Vesna! :) <3

I hope the Poolside collection will be released soon, Sarah! :)

Anastasia said on March 16th, 2010 at 23:20

Beautiful swatches!! I was wondering where you purchased these, because I wanted to purchase them but we don’t have them around here yet. Thanks!

the-swatchaholic said on March 19th, 2010 at 16:50

Thank you so much, Anastasia! :)
The Poolside collection will be released on April 1st. I was sent this collection by PR for consideration.

M said on March 23rd, 2010 at 12:25

Love towel boy toy! Btw, is flip flop fantasy similar to high hopes from up and away collection? And, for mani pedi in the summer, towel boy toy or grape pop? (:

the-swatchaholic said on March 23rd, 2010 at 13:44

Flip Flop Fantasy does remind me of High Hopes but they are very different because Flip Flop Fantasy is a neon, M. :)
For a summer mani pedi I would say Towel Boy Toy but Grape Pop is stunning as well. :D

Brandy said on April 26th, 2010 at 05:53

i’m dying to get yellow polka dot bikini and kiwi cool-ada.

and btw i think it is so cool that you put the swatches on the different mac foundation colors. that is such a good idea!

Paige said on May 24th, 2010 at 19:16

Absolutley love these colours! It’s been very hot here in the UK the past few days so the weather is really making me want these. Definatley going to be placing an order.
