Hi everyone! ♥
I am so nervous now.. 😮 Unfortunately I had to have a blogging break which was much longer than expected. There were several issues which made it impossible for me to blog. It all started with lighting issues in the end of last year where I couldn’t take any pics during the week because the daylight was already gone when I came back home from work. It was so frustrating only to be able to make swatches and pictures on the weekends that I finally ordered a lightbox to be independent from daylight. I was excited when I took my first pictures with the lightbox but also a bit frustrated because I had no permanent place to put it up in my small apartment.
My workaround was to set it up on my couch table which worked fine a few times. When needed I cleaned my couch table, put up the lamps and built the lightbox up. It worked fine till due to limited space a lamp fell on the floor and broke just because I moved the lightbox by an inch. I was so mad and devastated. This wasn’t working. I bought a set of new lamps but I had no idea what to do now. I was frustrated and lost my blogging mojo. Blogging takes time and with a fulltime job it needs to be fun but it wasn’t fun for me anymore because the situation was so frustrating.
Good lighting and sharp color accurate pictures are very important to me and I didn’t wanted to swatch and post when I am unable to make such pictures. With every week that passed I was more sad and frustrated. It was a vicious circle which was more and more demotivating.
What I needed was a permanent place to put the lightbox up so that I directly can take good pictures when I paint my nails during the week and show you crisp and color accurate swatches. Due to limited space in general I was clueless until I had the idea to use the top of my commode as my little permanent lightbox space. Unfortunately it took aeons with a lost mojo and a soon-to-be permanent demotivation to brace myself up to move a lot of stuff in my apartment to make room and to set everything up. Today is the day I am finally done. ♥
I hope you are not too disappointed in me. I love to blog but I also wanted to make it right with showing you the best pictures possible. I have a huge backlog in reviews but it felt wrong to make mediocre pictures just to get them done. Pictures where you can’t see the colors right and maybe make a purchase you regret.
Phew.. I am still nervous but of course I have a few more pictures of my first ever franken I made and the recipe. Happy frankening!
The recipe for my franken Your Holo Highness is really simple. Due to the lack of strong holos the most important ingredient is hard to find though: the silver holo.
I used each the same amount of:
Gosh – Holographic
Essence – 76 Cool And The Gang (a squishy jelly-esque royal blue from their new Multi Dimension colors)
As an empty I used a “Color & Go” nail polish bottle from Essence. Because it was my first franken I only wanted to mix a little amount (5ml) to not waste too much of Gosh Holographic which is sadly discontinued now. Baby franken steps. 😀
I can’t be happier with how Your Holo Highness looks. The holo effect is something between a linear and a scattered holo. Gosh Holographic is an insanely strong holo but adding color breaks the holo and makes it less strong.
As a replacement for Gosh Holographic you can use Nfu.Oh’s 61 if you like but because of the lack of strong linear holos, or any holos in general in the nail polish world, it’s sold out most of the time. I really hope and wish we will see a return of strong linear holos in every possible color. If the holo pigment is too expensive to keep the same retail price I am sure holo lovers would be willig to pay a dollar or two more. I definitely would.
I hope you enjoyed my first baby step with frankening.
Thanks for looking and have a great week guys! ♥
