MAC โ€“ Surf Baby summer 2011 nail lacquers: Swatches and Review

Hi everyone and TGIF! :)
Today I am showing you swatches of an unplanned haul from today: the nail polishes from MAC Cosmetics newest collection Surf Baby for summer 2011. It was planned to get them in the end of May when the collection is released in the US but then I saw the Surf Baby promotional walls at a Douglas perfumery on my way to work and got weak. Luckily the store wasn’t open yet but on my way back home I couldn’t resist any longer. ๐Ÿ˜€ Let’s take a look at Hangin’ Loose and Ocean Dip:

MAC – Hangin’ Loose, three coats

I think it finally happened. I may have found my mannequin shade! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Hangin’ Loose is a very light nude creme nail polish with a bit of silvery white shimmer which is more visible in the bottle than on the nails. It looks almost perfectly like my skintone which is NC15 in MAC foundations. I am afraid I might need a backup.
The application was good. It was a bit watery but I didn’t had any trouble with it.

Let’s take a look at the second nail polish from Surf Baby:

MAC – Ocean Dip, three coats

Ocean Dip is a gorgeous aqua/light teal nail polish with a finish somewhere between a creme and a jelly. The formula was great. Two coats would have been enough to keep more of the jelly-esque finish but I applied three for full opacity.

I also made quick bottle comparisons for both Hangin’ Loose and Ocean Dip:

MAC – Studio Fix Fluid foundation in NC15
MAC – Hangin’ Loose
MAC – Select Moisturecover Concealer in NW15

This is an unusual bottle comparison for a nail polish but I wanted to show you how it looks compared to my foundation and concealer because Hangin’ Loose is a great mannequin shade for NC15 and also NW15 skintones. :)

Essence – 03 Crazy Me (from Crazy About Color)
MAC – Ocean Dip
Essie – Turquoise & Caicos

I am not sure if I have a dupe for Ocean Dip in my collection. Crazy Me and Turquoise & Caicos were the only colors I could think of and they are no dupes.

For all swatches I used no base coat and no top coat.

Marion requested if I could add the comparison graphics for MAC skintones and here they are. :) Please keep in mind that the swatches on the graphics depend on my pictures above and the MAC foundation shades on the preview on MAC’s website.

Do you have anything from Surf Baby on your wishlist? I hope you enjoyed the swatches and the review for Hangin’ Loose and Ocean Dip. :)
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend! โ™ฅ

    • I had the same problem too with finding a great mannequin shade Deb and I am glad that Hangin’ Loose works as a mannequin shade for me. :) I wish though that there would be a permanent nail polish like it. :(

  1. Those look gorgeous on. And thank you for posting them on your palette so we’ll know how they’ll look if we’re not NC15! :-)

    How is the wear?

  2. Oh, wow! I love these :) Hangin’ loose looks amazing on you.. I’m very pale myself, so I will have to try to get it! I’m also looking for a perfect mannequin shade. The shimmer is a nice touch!

  3. Hanging Loose looks great on you! Love the very slight shimmer in it. I actually may like it more than Ocean Dip, and it’s colors like OD that catches my eyes first.

I love the length of your nails. I dream of attaining that one day.

  4. I’m NC15 too! And now I need BOTH of these. I wasn’t planning on getting either! I wonder how Ocean Dip compares to SH CSM Fairy Teal. This might be the answer to my Fairy Teal staining issues!
