Hi everyone! :)
As soon as the first promo pictures from 529 Graphite from Chanel’s Illusions d’Ombre de Chanel collection showed up I was curious how it would compare to Hard Candy Mr. Wrong. Would Mr. Wrong be a possible dupe?

Chanel nail polishes are pricey and also the fact that 529 Graphite is limited edition makes nail polish lovers including me hope that there are dupes available. Sadly Mr. Wrong is no dupe for 529 Graphite. :(

Let’s take a look how 529 Graphite compares to Mr. Wrong:

POST FAQ
Nail polishes used
Index and ring finger: Chanel – 529 Graphite
Middle finger and pinkie: Hard Candy – Mr. Wrong
Coats used
Chanel – 529 Graphite: two
Hard Candy – Mr. Wrong: two
Chanel nail polishes contain 13 ml and Hard Candy nail polishes contain 10.3 ml

As you can see the base color of Mr. Wrong is purple instead of the gunmetal/pewter base from Graphite. Also the gold foil particles are much larger in Mr. Wrong compared to the gold foil particles in 529 Graphite which are the same size as its silver foil particles.

Do you know about a better dupe for Graphite?

I posted swatches of all three Chanel Illusions d’Ombre de Chanel (525 Quartz, 529 Graphite and 531 Peridot) nail polishes here. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great week! ♥ :)

  1. Hi!
I just wanted to say that i love your blog! Have you tried to compare Graphite and Jitterbug frm China Glaze? I have Lucerne-tainly look marvelous and it’s kinda close to Graphite except it’s much darker. Jitterbug is lighter than Lucerne, so mayde it is closer to Graphite?

    • Thank you so much for loving my blog, Jane! :)
No I haven’t compared Graphite and Jitterbug yet. :( I would say though from looking at the bottles that they aren’t dupes. Graphite has gold sparkles and Jitterbug is just an anthrazite shimmer without gold sparkles in comparision.

    • Awwww not you too Solveig! Poor poor Graphite. :( Just kidding. 😀 The good thing about Graphite and Mr. Wrong beeing so different is that it absolutely justifies to buy both. 😛

I decide on my 3rd look at swatches of Graphite by Chanel, it was one that would have legs on it (as in years of good wearability and not too trendy). Plus I KNEW it was so unique – that pewter but with the gold in it. I hardly ever pop for the price of a Chanel polish – but the bogs got the better of me on this shade. I left Peridot to all the green polish heads out there. Not for me – but ahhhh Graphite – what a terrific shade!

I know Mr. Wrong is not a dupe, but I actually like it better. I wonder if you could get it closer to dupe status by layering it over something?
Both are quite pretty never the less :)

    • Currently I can’t think of a layering that would dupe Graphite, Angie. :( Foils are usually very opaque so it could be difficult two layer two to have the same look as Graphite.
I love both Mr. Wrong and Graphite too. 😀

  4. I don’t have it in my hands and it’s been a while since I’ve seen it swatched, but how does it compare to Orly Iron Butterfly with a topcoat? The Orly doesn’t have the gold shimmer, but I think it’s got a good combination of the silver and charcoal, if I’m not mistaken.

    • Yes Mr. Wrong is truly stunning, Nicole! :)
I’ve read it on an other blog (can’t remember which one though) that Mr. Wrong is a dupe and that you don’t need Graphite because it’s so similar so I thought it’s good to post a comparison. :)
