Hi everyone! :)
Today I’d like to show you a comparison of Chanel 525 Quartz from the Illusions d’Ombre de Chanel collection for Fall 2011 and Illamasqua Bacterium from the Toxic Nature Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

In the promo pictures Quartz reminded me a lot of Bacterium so I couldn’t wait to compare them. Sadly Bacterium is no dupe for 525 Quartz. Let’s take a look why:

POST FAQ
Nail polishes used
Index and ring finger: Chanel – 525 Quartz
Middle finger and pinkie: Illamasqua – Bacterium
Coats used
Chanel – 525 Quartz: three
Illamasqua – Bacterium: three
Chanel nail polishes contain 13 ml and Illamasqua nail polishes contain 15 ml
Bacterium was sent to me by Illamasqua for review consideration.

Bacterium is much lighter than Quartz and its shimmer is much more fine more of a pearl blue shimmer instead of the sparkly pink, blue and silver shimmer in 525 Quartz. Also Quartz is much more muted and less yellow-toned. Also the brushstrokes Bacterium causes are more visible.

I posted swatches of all three Chanel Illusions d’Ombre de Chanel (525 Quartz, 529 Graphite and 531 Peridot) nail polishes here. :)

Do you know about a better dupe for Quartz?

Thanks for looking and have a great week! ♥ :)

    • Hi Audrey! Thank you! :)
If my blog is mentioned and linked back to the post where the picture is taken from I don’t mind using a picture from me on non-commercial blogs when I am asked first.

Sorry that it took me till today for the reply but I have been very busy. Though I saw that you already posted your post with my picture yesterday before I even could give permission which I am honestly not too happy about. You can keep my picture on the post now though but if there is a next time please wait if I give permission or not.

  1. Thanks for the comparison:). I was thinking whether to buy Quartz or not. Finally I got only peridote and graphite. I actually like Bacterium more, but on the nails the difference is not so apparent.

By the way, I nominated you to some awards:)

    • You are very welcome Hlopushka! Thank you for the nominations! :)
If you like Bacterium more there is no need to buy Quartz and the good thing is if you change your mind you can always buy Quartz later because it’s not limited edition.

Quartz is the most top dog of these two I think despite I have it and am frustrated with the streaks until I get to 3rd coat which it only needs due to streaks. Bacterium is pretty, but like you said, certainly not a dup. Also I feel as if we have seen Bacterium in other similar shades done by other manufactures. It’s not as unique as is Quartz and that’s saying something since I don’t think Quartz is all that unique. I might end up trading it on MUA. I cannot see that I will wear it more than 2 times most and I sort of feel I got sucked up by the excitement of the Chanel fall promo stuff. Something I try not to do. Adore Graphite however out of this fall Chanel coll.

  3. Hahaha omg I just left a response to the comment you left on my Graphite blog post asking if you had pics of Quartz up yet and here they are! It looks really gorgeous on you. You are tempting me!
