Catrice – Out of Space nail polishes: Swatches and Review

Catrice Out of Space nail polishes swatches

Not too long ago Catrice was the “mouse” of German drugstore brands. Their range was dominated by your standard drugstore makeup variety: nudes, reds, pinks and maybe even browns. But then about a year ago Cosnova – the mother company of both Essence and Catrice – stepped up their game and relaunched the entire brand Catrice. With success. The previous monotony was replaced by a wide range of colorful products. Bright eye shadows and much, much more and exciting nail polishes.

Before the relaunch the Catrice limited editions already have included interesting nail polishes too but because the entire brand wasn’t appealing to me and only a very few drugstores in my town carry Catrice I never really looked into them. The most interesting part of the relaunch for me were of course the nail polishes and they caused a huge hype among nail polish enthusiasts.

Not only now Catrice has great nail polishes in their permanent collection but their limited editions also include stunning nail polishes most of the time. Today I’d like to show you the four nail polishes from Catrice’s Out of Space limited edition.
I usually would sort the nail polishes by numbers starting here with C01 My Milkyway but because it in my opinion is the weakest of the four I will show it as the last swatch:

Hmmmm duochrome. ♥ Sadly the duochrome of Houston’s Favorite isn’t really strong but it adds something special to this slightly muted teal nail polish. It’s shimmer almost looks like little glass flecks in the close-up because of it’s irregular size. Love it!

Beam Me Scotty is my favorite from the Out of Space collection. I thought it would be the duochrome Houston’s Favorite when I purchased them but a little surprise in the formula of Beam Me Scotty made it special: it’s a matte! There is no note on the bottle that it’s a matte so I was really surprised when I saw that it dried as a matte while swatching it.
Large silver shimmer which makes it almost look like a glitter in a dark green base? Yes please!

Hello pretty glass flecks! I just can’t get enough of glass flecks so Moonlight Express is a nail polish which definitely makes me happy. 😀 The blackened teal base of Moonlight Express is gorgeous as well.
C01 My Milkyway

Well.. I don’t like My Milkyway. I used two coats of My Milkyway over Moonlight Express. I thought it would be a great layering nail polish because of the “color changing top coat” sticker on the top of the bottle but to me it’s too opaque for a top coat. The first coat I applied was too patchy so a second coat was necessary but a second coat is just way too much and you almost can’t see the base color you are wearing. I haven’t tried My Milkyway on its own because of this disappointment.
My Milkyway could be nice for frankens though because of its light blue and pink glass or shimmer flecks. But as a top coat it didn’t work for me and I also couldn’t see any color changing.

Availability Catrice nail polishes
You can buy Catrice nail polishes in drugstores in Europe. Unfortunately not all of them sell Catrice so better check http://www.catrice.eu/ for availability. In Germany Catrice nail polishes retail for 2,45/2,49 Euro. The Out of Space nail polishes are limited edition.
Coats used
My Milkyway: two
Houston’s Favorite: two
Beam Me Scotty: two
Moonlight Express: three
Base coat and top coat
Base coat: –
Top Coat: –

The formula of Houston’s Favorite, Beam Me Scotty and Moonlight Express was great. Because I haven’t work My Milkyway on its own I can’t tell much about how many coats you would need to have an opaque finish of it. As a top coat it was too patchy for me.

All in all I am glad I picked all of them up – even when I only can use My Milkyway for frankens.

Have you purchased anything from the Catrice Out of Space collection and if yes how do you like it?

I made these swatches before my move and now seeing my long nails on the pictures makes me a little sad. :( I hope my broken nail grows back fast.

Thanks for looking and have a great start of the week! ♥ :)

    • Hi liloo! :)

Yes they really did something special with the Out of Space nail polish packaging. Usually they have regular prints on their limited edition nail polishes.
Aww I wish you could get Catrice in the UK too. :(

  2. Ahhh Scotty looks like an unattainable lemming for me, being in the US! LOVE that color! I am such a sucker for mattes and that one rocks!!

Your nails will grow :) If you can get a hold of Qtica’s nail growth stimulator, it is well worth it! It’s doing great things for my nails in under 3 weeks!!

Feel free to email me if you want more info on it!
