Dior – 401 Saint Tropez for Summer 2011 nail polish: Swatches and Review

Dior 401 Saint Tropez for Summer 2011 nail polish swatch

When I saw the first promo pictures and swatches of Dior 401 Saint Tropez I knew I needed this pretty slightly muted turquoise in my life. The fact that it is a numbered limited edition and only available in the US Dior online store and selected boutiques made me crave it even more. With the help of a CP I luckily got my paws on it and yesterday it was in my mail.

After a day of not wearing nail polish (the horror!) I picked Saint Tropez for my new manicure. Let’s take a look if Saint Tropez can live up to it’s hype:

Availability Dior Saint Tropez
Sadly 401 Saint Tropez is limited editon and only available on and selected boutiques. Currently Saint Tropez is sold on and it looks as if it won’t be restocked but you might still have luck finding it at Dior boutiques.
Coats used
Dior – 401 Saint Tropez: three
Base coat and top coat
Base coat: OPI – Nail Envy Original
Top Coat: Essie – Good To Go
The Dior nail polishes and the Dior Top Coat contain 10 ml/0.33 fl.oz and I bought Saint Tropez for 23 €.

The application of Saint Tropez was a bit tricky. It was more on the thick side and I had to be very careful with the application. It’s opaque enough to be a two coater but due to a few streaks I had to apply a third coat to even them out.
In the bottle you can see a tiny amount of silver shimmer but it’s not visible on my nails. I made a few close-up pictures but sadly not one of them showed the shimmer.

One thing slightly irritates me though. Saint Tropez is darker and less muted on my nails than it looks in the bottle. I was already looking forward to have this light muted turquoise on my nails but when I applied it I was a bit disappointed because it’s a bit darker and brighter.

Does Saint Tropez live up to its hype? Yes and no. It is a gorgeous turquoise crème and currently I can’t think of an exact dupe. If you don’t mind buying high end priced nail polishes and love turquoise you should be happy with your purchase. However If you can’t get your hands on Saint Tropez for retail I wouldn’t recommend to pay ebay prices for it.

All in all I am glad I had the chance to purchase Saint Tropez. I just love turquoise nail polishes and Saint Tropez makes no exception. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great week! ♥ :)

  1. I feel deeply in love with this color, and I couldn’t not forget about it. I tried finding it online since I hadn’t seen it in Paris, but yesterday I went back to Galeries Lafayette where I found it! 😀

I was so happy my heart actually sped up…. kinda pathetic, I know. 😉

  2. I am really picky about teals/turquoise polishes – not a great shade on me to get me through multi days with professional job/wardrobe. But this one I am really drawn to. Wish it was not attached to a Dior price tag!

    • Yes Saint Tropez looks like For Audrey’s darker sister, Kitty. :)
It reminds me of a lighter version and also a bit more muted version of China Glaze Flyin’ High from Up & Away. :)

    • Yes it’s definitely brighter in my nails than in the bottle, Martensgirl. :)
In some light like daylight somewhere where it’s shadowy I think hmm now it looks like it does in the bottle but then with brighter light it looks different. :(

  3. It’s very pretty but I don’t know if I would splurge that much. The only high end polish I have is Chanel Peridot and if I’m going to shell out money then they better be very unique! I love the color, though.

    • Yes it’s a bummer about the formula Jenn. :( Kelly from Vampy Varnish had no problems with the formula so maybe just some batches are a bit thicker?
Not all Dior nail polishes are thick though. The other two I tried so far (Dior Aloha and Paradise) were bliss to apply and not thick at all. :)
