Layering NOTD: Pure Ice – Heart Breaker over Illamasqua – Raindrops over Calvin Klein – Navy Sparkle

Layering Pure Ice Heart Breaker over Illamasqua Raindrops over Calvin Klein Navy Sparkle

Do you know the feeling when you get inspired and immediately have to put an inspiration into action? This happened when I talked to the lovely Alex from Illamasqua about their nail polish Raindrops.

Raindrops has been on my wishlist since it came out and when Illamasqua had their Summer Sale I finally purchased it (and a backup :)). I already have worn Illamasqua Raindrops on its own but Alex wrote that she used it for a layering over a navy blue nail polish and liked it. Coincidentally I was already wearing a navy blue nail polish – ck Calvin Klein Navy Sparkle – on my nails. Calvin Klein’s makeup brand ck Calvin Klein is sadly discontinued but is often available at TK Maxx stores.

To add a hint of color over the manicure I added a layer of Pure Ice Heart Breaker. If you can only own two layering nail polishes Heart Breaker should be one of them. You can layer it over every color because the base is almost clear and its from green to aqua to blue to royal blue shifting shimmer is just simply stunning.

Coats used
ck Calvin Klein – Navy Sparkle: two
Illamasqua – Raindrops: two
Pure Ice – Heartbreaker: one
Base coat and top coat
Base coat: OPI – Nail Envy Matte
Top Coat: Essence – Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer

Illamasqua Raindrops is such a stunning nail polish and I love it. Layering with Raindrops can be tricky because its base is almost too opaque to layer with it. I had difficulties to get a nice and even look without streaks with using one coat so I had to add a second coat of Raindrops.
This was an unexpected layering and maybe it is even a bit out of my layering comfort zone because one layering nail polish is so opaque but I really love the finished look.

Do you have Illamasqua Raindrops and have you already tried to layer it?

Thanks for looking and have a great week! ♥ :)

  1. Look on youtube and type sneak peek of opi holland and nicki minaj! I want all! I know this is totally off subject but we all are nail polish lovers! Its in a diff language. This color is gorgeous dont own any of them but they are on my wish list!!

  2. I didn’t know about Illamasqua Raindrops…it’s almost my ‘dream’ polish, you know a color you make up in your mind and wonder if you’ll ever have a chance to create it?

Pure Ice is easy to find and the price is great…I don’t usually like sheer polishes but I think I may pick this color up as a treat. :)

  3. This is so gorgeous! You do awesome layering combinations. I actually almost bought Pure Ice Heart Breaker yesterday because I thought it would be a good layering polish. It was either that or Pure Ice Busted. Gorgeous swatch!
