NOTD: OPI – Russian Navy or why we should give core nail polishes more love ♥

With every new month, every new week there are new nail polish collections coming out which is always a pleasure to satisfy the inner nail polish addict. Though with new nail polishes every week I tend to wear newer additions to my collection and often neglect the many gorgeous core nail polishes I own.

OPI Russian Navy from the Russian Collection for Fall 2007 – which luckily made it to OPI’s core assortment – must have been neglected for almost two years until I finally reached for it last week. I love Russian Navy so much. It was one of my first OPIs – maybe even my second OPI after Calendar Girl back in 2008.

OPI – Russian Navy: two
Base coat and top coat
Base coat: OPI – Nail Envy Matte
Top Coat: Essence – Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer

I love everything about Russian Navy. The dark navy blue base, the shimmer and its perfect and easy to apply formula. When I first saw Russian Navy on my nails I thought the shimmer was purple until I took a closer look: Russian Navy’s shimmer actually is navy blue and red! So stunning and unique.

If you don’t own OPI Russian Navy yet I definitely recommend to pick this beauty up.

Do you have a favorite core nail polish? :)

Thanks for looking and have a great week! ♥

  1. I bought this today, and I love it!! It is my first OPI polish, I’m super excited!! It’s so pretty!! Mine looks more solid, and not as I had hoped. Oh well! It is beautiful! Any suggestions for a newbie? I also purchased my first China Glaze a few days ago, and it is Oxidized Aqua crackle! :) It is so pretty! I am hoping to somehow find the flakies by Finger Paints, and Matte Magic by China Glaze soon. Do you know where I could find them? (That isn’t online, considering I am 14 and have a tight budget out of my babysitting money :P)

    • Hi Bekah! :)
I am sorry your bottle of Russian Navy isn’t 100% like you expected. :( It can – depending on the lighting – look a bit flatter or even more sparkly than in my pictures. I made the pictures in my lightbox with indirect lighting but I am tempted to wear it again and take pictures in direct lighting were it would look even more amazing. :)
Could you get your hands on the nail polishes on your wishlist in the end? :) xx

  2. I love this color and it was given to me by my sweet manicurist. I now just realized that it has been lost in a recent move. Glad to know that it is still available!

  3. Russian Navy is such a perfect, beautiful polish! Your photos really capture it’s beauty!

I love Royal Rajah Ruby, Yoga-ta Get This Blue, Lincoln Park after Midnight, and Ink. I think they are all core. I hope Red My Fortune Cookie is core because it’s one of my favorite red creams, so bright, beautiful, and perfect in every way! I *think* OPI added Parlez-Vous OPI? to the core collection a little while back. No idea why they would discontinue such a lovely shade in the first place. It’s definitely a favorite too! :)

  4. Such a gorgeous shade, i’ve almost picked that up a few times but for some reason never made the purchase. Maybe I’ll actually get it this time, its really beautiful on the nail. And it really is so true about neglected nail polish, so many new ones keep coming out thats its so hard to keep up let alone revisit our favorite oldies and classics.

    • Have you picked up Russian Navy now Frosso? :)
It’s always sad to see yourself neglect older nail polishes and pick new polishes instead. A new year’s resolution of me is to wear older nail polishes more often. :)
