This is for you, Mary, and your mum Voola.
On October October 10th Mary’s mum Voola died of pancreatic cancer after battling it for 18 months. Mary is a kind and wonderful fellow blogger and Twitter friend and today’s layering is dedicated to her and her mum. Blue was Voola’s favorite color on Mary’s nails and when Mary wrote that OPI Absolutely Alice was her mum’s favorite I knew I had to include this beautiful blue glitter in the layering I had in mind for Mary and Voola.
Until now OPI Absolutely Alice has been an untried because I wanted to save the first manicure with it for a special occasion. I sandwiched Absolutely Alice in-between OPI Russian Navy and Ninja Polish Alexandrite from the Facets collection. Russian Navy was my base color of choice to make the edges of the manicure appear darker and Alexandrite on top of the layering to add more sparkles.
Tomorrow, on Monday October 22nd, if you are wearing blue nail polish, tweet a picture of your manicure and include #endpancancer in your tweet to Mary (@Mellinail), Mary will donate $1 for each tweet she receives to Pancreatic Cancer Canada. If you like to participate you can read more about Mary’s fundraising on her Twitter.

I love how well OPI Absolutely Alice and Ninja Polish Alexandrite work together. It is like they are made for each other. Alexandrite doesn’t tone down the blue and gold sparkles of Absolutely Alice but adds gorgeous extra sparkles with its multichrome glitter. Alexandrite also adds depth with its multichrome shimmer which appears mostly blue in my pictures.

Especially in the last three pictures which I took in direct lighting (in contrast to the indirect lighting of the first two pictures) you can see how using a dark blue like OPI Russian Navy as the base color makes the edges of my nails appear darker and also adds depth to this layering.

OPI – Russian Navy: two coats
OPI – Absolutely Alice: one coat
Ninja Polish – Alexandrite: one coat
Base coat: OPI – Nail Envy Matte
Top Coat: Essie – Good To Go
To participate in Mary’s fundraising I will tweet a picture of this manicure to Mary with the hastag #endpancancer tomorrow as well but I wanted to post this layering earlier on my blog to give you – if you like to participate too – a bit more time to prepare a manicure.
Dear Mary, I hope you like this layering. Big hugs and squishes! ♥
